Maison Trimbach FE, Alsace, France

Maison Trimbach. If ever there was a name synonymous with quality, prestige and history, then this family owned winery is it. Now in their 13th generation, I have had the privilege of knowing Jean Trimbach and his son and latest winemaker Julien since 2016. I have even witnessed Julien attempt Karaoke late at night in an Edinburgh Karaoke bar. The less said about that the better.

This family, based in the stunningly beautiful village of Ribeauville, Alsace is so intertwined with the history of the region. Maison Trimbach's viticultural origins date back to 1626, and since then, twelve generations of rigorous winemakers and Ambassadors devoted to the passion for Alsace wines have constantly distinguished themselves by the quality and authenticity of their wines, to patiently develop, from father to son, a solid reputation.

I once asked, early on and in error, the question all wineo's ask about their trademark Riesling, Cuvee Frederic Emile. What is the residual sugar. The quick fired and some what brisk responce from Jean Trimbach was "Graeme, I don't care. The only thing I care about is balance, balance, balance". A phrase I got used to hearing and a phrase I have take to heart. Every single wine from Trimbach is characterised with that wonderful balance. A balance of sugar, acidity, age, tension. These are special wines, and I am so happy to call them friends.
