2022 O Luar do Sil Godello, Capellanes

Established in 2014 in the town of Seadur, O Luar do Sil is the white wine project of my friends at Pago de los Capellanes in Ribera del Duero. Whilst most Ribera producers look to neighbouring Rueda to produce their white wines, the Rodeo Villa family went north west to Valdeorras, home of Spain's finest Godello grapes.

The name is derived from the Luar (moon) and Sil (the river that flows through the region to bring life). This wine is 100% Godello grown on trellised vines planted at a density of 2,200 plants/ha. The soil is predominantly slate and granite & the vineyard sits at an altitude of around 400m in the valley of the river Sil. It is a small vineyard and all the grapes are picked by hand.

Floral yet substantial Godello, the fruity white Spanish grape: this is full of apricots and peaches, with apples adding a northern freshness.
